In November 2011, the FDA formally withdrew its approval of use of Avastin in breast cancer patients, citing studies that suggest that Avastin does more harm than good to breast cancer patients. Avastin is still on the market for use in colon and lung cancer patients, but is no longer approved by the FDA for use in breast cancer patients because studies show that the drug has significant health risks and is not proven to extend the life of breast cancer patients.
