The following prescription medications have been linked to birth defects in children when taken by a mother during her pregnancy
CELEXA: Celexa has been linked to increased risk of heart defects, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, omphalocele, craniosynostosis, spina bifida, cleft lip, cleft palate, heart murmurs, aortic stenosis, limb abnormalities, and development of an autism spectrum disorder.
DEPAKOTE: Depakote has been linked to an increased risk of spina bifida, cleft palate, limb malformation, genital malformation, undescended testes, hypospadia, heart malformation, dysplastic ribs, neural tube malformations, and death of the infant.
EFFEXOR: Effexor has been linked to persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), central nervous system problems, respiratory issues, digestive system problems, hypoglycemia, and behavioral issues. In addition, infants who suffer from withdrawal from Effexor suffer from restlessness, hypertonia, jitteriness, irritability, and poor feeding.
GARDASIL: Gardasil has been linked to miscarriages and spontaneous abortions.
LEXAPRO: Lexapro has been linked to increased risk of heart defects, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, omphalocele, craniosynostosis, spina bifida, cleft lip, cleft palate, heart murmurs, aortic stenosis, limb abnormalities, and development of an autism spectrum disorder.
PAXIL: Paxil has been linked to increased risk of heart defects, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, omphalocele, craniosynostosis, spina bifida, cleft lip, cleft palate, heart murmurs, aortic stenosis, limb abnormalities, and development of an autism spectrum disorder.
PRISTIQ: Pristiq has been linked to an increased risk of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), central nervous system problems, respiratory issues, club foot or other limb malformations, cleft lip or cleft palate, Spina Bifida, neural tube defects, behavioral issues, and withdrawal.
PROZAC: Prozac has been linked to increased risk of heart defects, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, omphalocele, craniosynostosis, spina bifida, cleft lip, cleft palate, heart murmurs, aortic stenosis, limb abnormalities, and development of an autism spectrum disorder.
TOPAMAX: Topamax has been linked to cleft palates, cleft lips, genital malformation, and other malformations.
WELL BUTRIN: Wellbutrin has been liked to cardiac birth defects, including the narrowing of the main artery in the heart.
ZOLOFT: Zoloft has been linked to increased risk of heart defects, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, omphalocele, craniosynostosis, spina bifida, cleft lip, cleft palate, heart murmurs, aortic stenosis, limb abnormalities, and development of an autism spectrum disorder.
