Gardasil’s Serious Side Effects Include Miscarriages and
Deaths
The vaccine Gardasil causes very serious side effects, including
death. While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) maintains
the vaccine only has minor side effects, eighteen deaths have
been reported. Although not causally linked to Gardasil, eleven
of the deaths occurred less than 7 days after the women received
the vaccine. The youngest victim was only 11 years old. Forty-five
women have experienced miscarriages or spontaneous abortions
soon after receiving Gardasil injections. If you or a loved one

Gardasil is a vaccine designed to prevent the Human Papilloma Virus or HPV.
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease. Normally HPV will not
cause any symptoms and will go away on its own. However, in a small number
of cases, if untreated, HPV can lead to genital warts and cervical cancer.
There are about 40 types of HPV; Gardasil is only designed to prevent 4 types
of HPV, 6, 11, 16 and 18. However, two of those types cause 70% of cervical
cancer, while the other two types cause 90% of genital warts. The FDA approved
Gardasil in June 2006. At the time the FDA heralded Gardasil as a “huge
advance.” Nevertheless, Gardasil is still in testing phase and final
tests will not conclude until September 2009.
Gardasil is administered through a series of three injections. The three injections
are given over a six month period of time, the second dose two months after
the first and the third dose four months later. Gardasil is recommended only
for girls and women aged 9-26 years old. The FDA has not approved it for use
in older women. In fact in June 2008, the FDA declined to approve Gardasil
for women ages 27-45. Currently, the best time to receive the Gardasil vaccine
is before a girl or woman becomes sexually active. The normal age recommended
for girls to receive the vaccine is 11 or 12 years old.
The developers of Gardasil, Merck & Company, stated Gardasil was virtually
free from side effects. However, this is not accurate, over 8,000 cases of
adverse side effects have been reported to the FDA’s Vaccine Adverse
Event Reporting System or VAERS. Gardasil has serious side effects. Such side
effects include:
- Seizures
- Blood Clots
- Guillain-Barre Syndrome (can lead to paralysis
and death)
- Bell’s Palsy (paralysis of nerves in the face)
- Spontaneous
abortion or miscarriage
- Paralysis
- Coma
- Death
Lesser serious side effects include mild fever,
nausea, pain and swelling at the injection site, dizziness and
fainting, muscle
pain and vomiting. In 2008, Judicial Watch, a public interest
group, issued a special report on the FDA’s quick approval
of the Gardasil vaccine. Click

It found the FDA rushed through the approval of Gardasil, after
only a six month review process and has been on the market for
over two years while testing of the vaccine is incomplete. The
long term effects of Gardasil are unknown, particularly the effects
on a woman’s fertility. In addition, the effectiveness
of Gardasil long term is unknown. The vaccine is thought to only
be effective in preventing HPV for two to five years, which means
girls and women will have to receive multiple vaccines throughout
their lifetime.
Merck & Company aggressively lobbied for Gardasil to be mandatory
for public school children, even though, neither the New England
Journal of Medicine nor the American College of Pediatrics recommend
mandatory vaccines. Over twenty states have considered making
Gardasil either mandatory or voluntary for middle school girls.
However, only Virginia has passed such a bill into law, which
contained an opt-out provision for parents. Even Dr. Diane Harper,
a specialist who helped developed Gardasil is against mandatory
vaccines. She said, “the vaccine has not been out long
enough for us […] to really understand what all of the
potential side effects are going to be.” (http://cbs4.com/iteam/Gardisil.Girls.Vaccine.2.718592.html.)
