Nexium Lawyer - d'Oliveira & Associates

Nexium LawyerNEXIUM was approved by the FDA in 2001, and it is manufactured by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. Nexium is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, ulcers, and other stomach acid conditions. The FDA released a safety alert in 2011 warning the public about the increased risk of bone fractures when taking Nexium. Research has shown that Nexium interferes with proper absorption of calcium, which can lead to bone density issues. Side effects linked to Nexium include:

  • OSTEOPOROSIS – low bone density due to thinning of bone tissues; low bone density then leads to an increased risk of bone injuries.
  • BONE FRACTURES – any type of broken bone

The manufacturers of Nexium were forced to change the drug’s label in 2010 to include additional safety information about the increased risk of osteoporosis when taking the drug. Nexium is part of a class of drugs called “proton pump inhibitors.” Nexium treats gastroesophageal issues by reducing the production of stomach acids. Although the reduction in stomach acids is intended to treat heartburn and ulcers, it can also interfere with the absorption of calcium, which causes bone density issues.

NEXIUM TAKEN WITH PLAVIX: Nexium and Prilosec are in a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors, or PPIs. When Nexium is taken at the same time as PLAVIX, the effects of Nexium or other PPIs reduce its effectiveness. Plavix is an anticoagulant drug used to prevent heart attacks and strokes. When an individual takes a PPI at the same time as these heart medications, they are unknowingly putting themselves at higher risk for heart attacks and strokes.

PLEASE SPEAK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE DISCONTINUING USE OF NEXIUM OR ANY OTHER PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION.
