Recently, the law firm of d’Oliveira & Associates announced the release of a new webpage regarding the injectable prescription drug Byetta. The webpage offers detailed information regarding the drug’s manufacturer Amlin Pharmaceuticals, which was later acquired by Bristol-Meyers Squibb, the severe side effects, warnings by The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, litigation and lawsuits surrounding Byetta and what options are available to those who have been injured by the drug and wish to bring a Byetta claim or Byetta lawsuit.
The new webpage details how the injectable drug, which was approved by the FDA in 2005 as a way to regulate blood sugar in those with Type-II Diabetes, has been linked to severe side effects such as pancreatitis, kidney failure, and instances cancer developing in the pancreas, thyroid, and liver. Although the drug’s manufacturer has attempted to downplay the significance or severity of the Byetta side effects, the FDA has issued strong warnings and numerous reports emphasizing how dangerous the side effects are.
In October 2007, the FDA noted 30 reports of acute pancreatitis, or the sudden inflammation of the pancreas with bleeding as a result of Byetta use. In 2008, the FDA received received reports of six cases of hemorrhagic or necrotizing pancreatitis in patients taking Byetta. Two of those patients died as a result of their Byetta side effects.
The Administration quickly notified healthcare providers about the dangers of side effects of Byetta and required the manufacturer to update and improve its warning labels. In November 2009, an alert was issued by the FDA regarding some changes made in the warning label of Byetta. The changes included data received regarding incidents where patients developed kidney problems. That time, more than 70 people using Byetta experienced altered kidney function, with more than 60 of them suffering acute renal failure.
d’Oliveira & Associates believes that these people have a potential lawsuit against the manufacturer and marketer of the drug, Amlin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The manufacturer has a duty to test the product, and to disclose any and all risks associated with the drug. The new website offered by d’Oliveira & Associates goes into greater detail about the side effects and other Byetta risks and also gives all the information needed to those persons who have suffered a Byetta side effect what they need to know about their rights.
