Skechers Toning Shoes Lawyer - d'Oliveira & Associates

TONING SHOES have recently been linked to muscle and tendon injuries, as well as injuries from falls. These shoes are also called “wellness shoes” or “rocker-bottom” shoes, and are designed to create muscle resistance. However, reports have surfaced suggesting that the shoes cause dangerous injuries. Some of the injuries linked to toning shoes include:

  • FALL INJURIES – The instability of toning shoes can cause the wearers to fall and injure themselves. These injuries can include broken bones, sprains, or cuts that were caused by a fall.
  • MUSCLE and TENDON INJURIES – The instability of a toning shoe can cause the wearer to strain a muscle or a tendon. These injuries most often occur in the ankle, calf, thigh, or hip area when wearing toning shoes.
  • STRESS FRACTURES – A stress fracture is a small crack in a bone, which can worsen over time. Toning shoes can cause stress fractures in the feet, ankles, and hips.
  • ACHILLES TENDON INJURIES The Achilles tendon is especially susceptible to injury from toning shoes. The design of “rocker” toning shoes puts additional stress on the Achilles tendon, which can cause it to rupture or tear.
  • DISRUPTION OF NATURAL GAIT The design of a toning shoe disrupts the way a person walks. This can later lead to increased risk of muscle and tendon injuries to the hip, foot, and ankle.

The manufacturers of TONING SHOES marketed them to increase muscle tone. However, studies have shown that the shoes may cause more harm than good. These shoes are especially risky for the elderly and those with balance issues. However, even young individuals, who would describe themselves as being in good shape, have experienced injuries due to toning shoes.

Toning shoes are made by several different manufacturers, including:

  • Sketchers Shape-Ups
  • Reebok Easy-Tone
  • Keds Sport Toning Shoes
  • New Balance Rock & Tone
  • Crocs Toning Shoes
  • Masai Barefoot Technology
  • FitFlops
  • Avia iBurn
  • Champion Pace Toning Shoes
  • Dansko Toning Shoes
