Study Links Trasylol to Kidney Failure
A study recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine
(January 2006) states that heart bypass patients who were given
Trasylol during surgery had a greatly increased risk of kidney
failure, heart attack, heart failure, and stroke. The study was
conducted on an international level involving more then 4,300
patients. The study further determined that in multiple instances
the administration of Trasylol during surgery was unnecessary
and only marginally effective to controlling bleeding.

What is Trasylol?
Trasylol (generic name Aprotinin) is manufactured
by Bayer Pharmaceuticals and was approved for use in the United
States by the FDA in 1993.
Trasylol is used during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery to reduce
perioperative blood loss and the need for blood transfusion.
Amicar and Cykokapron are two available generic alternatives
to Trasylol which have not been found to produce dangerous
side effects

enzymes that dissolve blood clots
