Happy Birthday to the American Bar Association (ABA), which was founded 137 years ago today, on August 21, 1878! The ABA is one of the largest legal organizations in the U.S., and it has worked tirelessly to ensure that the law evolves with society.
The organization accredits law schools, sponsors lawyer education programs, provides ethical guidance to lawyers, and promotes justice for everyone. It has worked to advance the rights of the disabled, women, and the LGBT community. They have also worked towards providing pro bono representation of the poor and homeless, as have drafted a code of lawyer ethics, which is the basis for legal ethics laws in 49 states.
