When you have been in a Kentucky car accident, it’s always best if you can walk away injury free. That is not always the case. Unfortunately, this does not always happen when you are driving a car that weighs thousands of pounds. Regardless of whether you are the driver or are a passenger, any accident can cause trauma that can have a debilitating effect on your body.

Depending on accident happens, believe it or not, directly effects the injuries if any. An injury that I see routinely in a car in accident victims is a closed head injury. This injury could be a concussion or a traumatic brain injury. These injuries are often difficult to detect since there is not always an indication of physical contact. There may not be a laceration or any bruising. In car accidents, the traumatic brain injury can be the whiplash type motion that occurs. This can take days or weeks to show signs of a problem.

According to the Center for Disease Control auto accidents are the second leading cause of traumatic brain injuries. Anytime you are in a car accident, you should be checked by a medical professional, whether you believe you are injured or not. You may be hurt and not even realize it.

Some of the symptoms of traumatic brain injuries are:

*memory or concentration problems

*headaches

*dizziness

*loss of balance

*nausea

*sensitivity to light

*fatigue

*mood swings

These are the most common symptoms. There are more symptoms and a brain injury may not include any of these. This is why it is important to have yourself checked out by a doctor if you have been in a car accident. Traumatic brain injuries are life changing. Early detection is important for recovery. This also helps your injury be properly documented, allowing your personal injury lawyer to get you the compensation you deserve.
