Januvia side effects and health risks

The law firm of d’Oliveira & Associates recently released a series of webpages regarding the health risks of the prescription medication Januvia. Manufactured and marketed by Merck & Co., Inc., Januvia is intended to treat patients suffering from Type-II diabetes. However, the new webpage highlights that the medication has been linked with an increased risk of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, rhabdomyolysis, kidney failure, and fatality among its users. d’Oliveira & Associates’ new website details the risks and severe side effects, medical studies, lawsuits, and other information regarding options for those who have used the medication.

Januvia side effects are linked to Pancreatic CancerApproved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2006 as a way to help persons with diabetes, Januvia manufacturer, Merck, has found itself at the center of criticism regarding the dangers of Januvia side effects. The website outlines studies that have found that Januvia use increases the risk of pancreatic cancer by 2.7 times the amount that other diabetes drugs pose. The website examines how the FDA itself released a statement about the potential link between Januvia and acute pancreatitis. Eighty-eight cases of pancreatitis were already reported between October 2006 and February 2009. The FDA, since then, has been working with Merck & Co., the manufacturers, to produce a new warning label for the drug.

It has been recommended that healthcare professionals should observe and monitor patients for the potential risk of pancreatitis and similar life-threatening complications. The new webpage also provides information on the symptoms of pancreatitis. These include fever, nausea, and pain centered in the upper middle or upper left of the abdomen, swollen abdomen, and vomiting. d’Oliveira & Associates hopes the information on the webpage helps those persons who have either suffered any of the side effects or have simply taken Januvia and are seeking information about their legal options.
