Harley-Davidson is one of the most famous motorcycle manufacturers in the world. However, a recent issue regarding loose oil lines on their 2017 models has initiated a recall of about 57,000 motorcycles. As summer dawns and motorcycle traffic picks up, all who are on the roads are urged to exercise extra caution and if you are injured in a motorcycle accident, do not hesitate to contact an experienced Providence, RI motorcycle accident lawyer.
What Is The Reason For The Recall?
Harley-Davidson representatives believe a clamp on the engine oil cooler may have been improperly installed during the manufacturing process. This issue can force the oil line to become loose and spew oil into the path of the rear wheel, making the motorcycle much harder to handle. To date, there have been nine reports of such incidents, two of which resulted in crashes. The motorcycle manufacturer has publicly stated that this is a voluntary recall, meaning that it is not regulated or necessary, but rather in the best interest of customer safety.
What Model Bikes Are On The Recall List?
This potential oil line issue affects Harley-Davidson’s 2017 line of “Touring” motorcycles manufactured from July 2, 2016 through May 9, 2017. Specific models include:
- Electra Glide Ultra Classic
- Police Electra Glide
- Police Road King
- Street Glide
- Street Glide Special
- Road King
- Road King Special
- Road Glide
- Road Glide Special
The recall began on Tuesday June 6th, 2017. Those who own a Harley model that falls on the recall list are urged to bring their motorcycle to the nearest Harley-Davidson dealership for a clamp inspection. If they discover a clamp issue on your motorcycle, it will be repaired for free. Again, this is not a mandatory recall, but Harley-Davidson highly recommends your utilize the free inspection.
