Second Monsanto Roundup Trial in Northern District of California

The second trial against Bayer in the Monsanto Roundup litigation is underway in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. The plaintiff in this case is suing the makers of Roundup alleging that his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma was caused by long-term exposure to the weed killer on his property.

In the first trial, last August, a groundskeeper was awarded a landmark $289 Million Dollar verdict after the jury found that Monsanto Roundup caused his cancer. The award was later reduced to $78 Million Dollars. Monsanto Roundup lawsuits continue to be filed by Plaintiffs across the country alleging that exposure to glyphosate caused their cancer.

Plaintiffs who have filed lawsuits against Bayer are claiming that long-term exposure to the chemicals in Monsanto Roundup caused them to develop non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer. The lawsuits further allege that the makers of Roundup knew of the risk of developing cancer but failed to warn the public of the danger.

Due to the large number of claims that have been filed across the country, the lawsuits have been condensed into multi-district litigation (MDL) 2741 in the Northern District of California. This will allow the cases to go through certain phases of the trial process together, saving time and money.

Why is Monsanto Roundup Allegedly Dangerous?

The active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, is highly effective in killing weeds and boosting crop production. This has made it a popular product in the farming industry. However, the chemical has also been connected to the development of cancer.

Those who may be most heavily impacted include farm laborers and others who worked in the farming and produce industries.
