A recent jury verdict against Monsanto is being called the start in the right direction. A California couple, after years of using Monsanto Roundup, were both diagnosed with the same type of cancer only four years apart. The jury gave the couple $55 million in damages, as well as, $2 billion as punishment for Monsanto’s actions. The verdict revealed evidence, such as text messages and emails, between Monsanto and officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Monsanto and its parent company, Bayer, deny all allegations of the product being dangerous. Meanwhile, Monsanto’s key ingredient in the roundup, glyphosate, has been flagged by World Health Organization (WHO) as potentially causing cancer in 2015. Monsanto Roundup is the world’s leading broad-spectrum herbicide used to kill weeds.
