The motorcycle accident attorneys at d’Oliveira and Associates recently received a settlement on behalf of their injured client in the amount of $225,000 from The Travelers Insurance Company. The client was injured in an accident when he was on his motorcycle in Bristol, RI. He was at a complete stop when a vehicle failed to slow or stop behind him and crashed into the rear of his motorcycle. The impact was so significant it caused the client to be thrown off of his motorcycle landing on the car in front of him.
The client sustained several injuries as a result of the accident. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and then transferred to Rhode Island Hospital. He had pain in his back, left hip, and leg when arriving at the hospital. X-rays confirmed that he had fractured his pelvis, and he was admitted into the Orthopedic Trauma unit for management of the injuries and remained there for four days. He was later diagnosed with a cervical sprain. He received in home physical therapy as well as outpatient physical therapy. An MRI later revealed that he suffered from degenerative disc disease as well as a bugling disc. He later received a steroid injection to manage the constant pain.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration motorcyclists are 35 times more likely to experience a deadly accident on the road than those in passenger cars. Because motorcycle riders are at an obvious increased risk in comparison to car and truck drivers, the Department of Highway Safety urges both car and motorcycle drivers to exercise extra caution. Motorcycle operators are inherently more likely to experience a deadly accident; this is why it is crucial that operators are exercising safe and proper driving technique.
